JUI-F announces protests against Gaza genocide, emphasizing solidarity with Palestinians and addressing local governance issues.
In recent weeks, the situation in Gaza has escalated dramatically, drawing international attention and condemnation. The ongoing conflict has resulted in significant loss of life and suffering among the Palestinian population. In response to these events, the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) party in Pakistan has announced plans to launch a protest movement aimed at highlighting what they describe as "Israel’s genocide in Gaza." This initiative reflects a growing concern among various political and social groups regarding the humanitarian crisis unfolding in the region.
On Wednesday, Maulana Attaur Rehman, the provincial emir of JUI-F, addressed a gathering in Mansehra, where he emphasized the importance of solidarity with the Palestinian people. He stated, "I am here to invite you to our Dec 8 conference in Peshawar to demand an end to the killing of Palestinian men, women, and children by Israeli forces in Gaza." This conference is expected to attract over one million participants from across Pakistan, particularly from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, showcasing a united front against what many perceive as Israeli brutality.
During the gathering, Mr. Rehman highlighted the role of JUI-F's central emir, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, who is set to address the conference. The party aims to use this platform not only to voice their concerns but also to advocate for the enforcement of Shariah law in Pakistan through peaceful and political means. Mr. Rehman expressed optimism about the party's efforts, stating that they hope their struggle will ultimately succeed in bringing about positive change.
In addition to the political activities surrounding the Gaza issue, local governance matters are also being addressed in Mansehra. The tehsil municipal administration has initiated a campaign against encroachments in the city and its suburbs. Tehsil municipal officer Mazhar Muzzaffar Awan reported that both temporary and permanent illegal structures have been removed to ensure the smooth flow of traffic. This anti-encroachment drive is part of a broader effort to maintain order and safety in public spaces.
Mr. Awan further explained that a joint team from the police and the municipal administration has been actively clearing encroachments along major roads, including Abbottabad Road, Kashmir Road, and Shinkiari Road. Traders have been warned of strict legal action if they continue to obstruct roads and pavements. The administration is also taking steps to ensure that its own officials are held accountable, with a biometric system installed to monitor attendance.
As the rainy season approaches, the local government is prioritizing public health by relocating dumping sites and clearing clogged drains and sewage lines. These measures are crucial for preventing health hazards and ensuring the well-being of the community.
The upcoming protest movement by JUI-F serves as a reminder of the interconnectedness of global issues and local governance. As citizens rally for the rights of Palestinians, they also seek to address pressing local concerns. This dual focus on international solidarity and community welfare highlights the importance of civic engagement in shaping a just society. The events in Gaza may seem distant, but they resonate deeply within the hearts of many, prompting action and advocacy right here at home.
