Moscow and Islamabad are taking significant steps towards enhancing their trade relations, particularly through the development of the North-South International Transport Corridor. The recent meeting between Alexey Overchuk, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, and Abdul Aleem Khan, the Minister of Privatization, Investment and Communications of Pakistan, underscores the importance of this initiative.

During their discussions in Moscow, Overchuk expressed gratitude to Khan for his active participation in the Russian-Pakistan Trade and Investment Forum, which is scheduled to take place on October 1-2, 2024. This forum is expected to serve as a platform for furthering economic ties and exploring new avenues for collaboration between the two nations.

Both leaders acknowledged the rapid progress being made in various sectors, including transport, logistics, and industrial cooperation. Overchuk stated, “We welcome Pakistan’s interest in the development of the North-South International Transport Corridor which is becoming one of the most important trade routes in Eurasia supporting better connectivity between countries of Northern Eurasia and the Global South.” This statement highlights the strategic significance of the corridor in enhancing trade flows and economic integration.

On the other hand, Abdul Aleem Khan emphasized that “Pakistan views enhancing connectivity with Russia as a vital step towards expansion of bilateral trade.” This sentiment reflects Pakistan's commitment to strengthening its economic ties with Russia, which could lead to mutual benefits for both countries.

As the discussions progressed, both parties agreed to maintain active communication through their respective departments to further explore the implementation of the plans discussed.
