PML-N's Punjab Local Government Revamp Initiative

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz's commitment to strengthening the local government system in Punjab has been highlighted by Provincial Minister for Local Government Zeeshan Rafique. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, efforts are underway to revamp the existing system. A dedicated committee comprising provincial ministers, assembly members, and senior officers has been instrumental in making significant progress in this regard.

One of the key initiatives being pursued by the local government department is the digitization of essential information for solid waste management at the rural union council and tehsil levels across all districts in the province. Once approved, sanitation services in rural areas will be outsourced to ensure efficient waste management activities such as manual and mechanical sweeping, waste collection, drain cleaning, and waste disposal.

Emphasizing citizen participation, Minister Zeeshan Rafique stressed the importance of establishing effective and sustainable sanitation systems in both villages and cities. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif's focus on cleanliness has led to the exploration of international public-private partnership models to enhance sanitation services in the region.

The local government department in Punjab is actively selecting companies with modern machinery for waste management in 148 tehsils. Furthermore, efforts are underway to create environment-friendly dumping sites in every tehsil to address the challenge of garbage disposal effectively.
