PTI Protests Continue in Islamabad; Mobile Services Suspended

In recent days, the political landscape in Pakistan has been marked by significant unrest, particularly surrounding the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protests. As the protests continue, senior officials from the Islamabad Police, including the Inspector General (IG) and the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Operations, have arrived at D Chowk to oversee the situation. In response to the growing number of demonstrators, fresh contingents of Rangers and police have been dispatched to China Chowk to manage the crowd and maintain order. The authorities have erected containers at various strategic points, including Zero Point, Faisal Avenue, and Srinagar Highway, to restrict movement and control the flow of protesters. While the Faizabad Interchange has been partially opened, many citizens in Islamabad are facing significant inconvenience due to road closures.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has reported that a total of 564 individuals have been arrested during the PTI protests. Among those detained are 11 plainclothes personnel from the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) police, marking a notable development in the ongoing unrest. Naqvi addressed the media at D Chowk, stating that there was an attempt to storm the capital led by K-P Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, which could have resulted in casualties. Fortunately, no such incidents occurred, and the situation remains under control.

What makes this situation particularly alarming is the involvement of K-P plainclothes officers in the protests, a first in Pakistan's history where police have been utilized in such demonstrations. Among those arrested, there were also 120 Afghan nationals, highlighting the diverse nature of the participants in these protests.
