Punjab government reduces transport fares under Azma Bokhari, urging other provinces to follow amid falling fuel prices.

In recent developments, the Punjab government has taken a significant step to alleviate the financial burden on commuters by reducing transport fares. This decision comes in light of the recent decrease in petrol and diesel prices, which has prompted the government to act in the best interest of the public. Information Minister Punjab, Azma Bokhari, has emphasized that the fare reductions are a direct result of instructions from Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz.

According to Azma Bokhari, the fare adjustments are not just a one-time occurrence. She stated that the fare from Lahore to Karachi has been reduced by 190 rupees, while the fare from Lahore to Peshawar has seen a decrease of 50 rupees. Additionally, the fare from Lahore to Rawalpindi has been lowered by 20 rupees. This consistent approach to fare reduction is a notable feature of Punjab, as it is the only province that actively lowers transport fares in response to falling fuel prices.

Azma Bokhari highlighted that transport officers are currently in the field to ensure compliance with the new fare list, which has been prominently displayed at all bus stations. This transparency is crucial for passengers, as it allows them to be informed about the current fares. The minister also expressed gratitude towards the transporters of Punjab for their cooperation with the government in implementing these changes.

It is worth noting that this is the fifth consecutive time that transport fares have been reduced due to declining petrol prices. Azma Bokhari urged other provinces to follow Punjab's lead and consider reducing their transport fares whenever fuel prices drop. This call to action reflects a broader desire for equitable treatment of commuters across the country.

The Punjab government's proactive measures to reduce transport fares not only provide immediate relief to passengers but also set a precedent for other provinces to follow. As fuel prices fluctuate, it is essential for all provincial governments to prioritize the welfare of their citizens by adjusting transport fares accordingly. This approach not only fosters goodwill among the public but also encourages a more sustainable and responsive transport system across Pakistan.
