Senator Sherry Rehman Advocates Gender Equality in Formal Settings

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Senator Sherry Rehman has recently highlighted the issue of unequal treatment between men and women in formal environments. She raised concerns about the disparity in how men are often addressed with honorifics like 'Sahib,' while women are frequently referred to by their first names only.

Senator Rehman emphasized the importance of equal respect for both genders in professional settings. She stressed the need for women to be addressed using proper titles and surnames, similar to how men are addressed. Rehman urged her colleagues to maintain a consistent level of formality when addressing women, avoiding casual references by first names.

Rehman firmly stated that women should not be called 'larki' and should instead be addressed with respect using appropriate titles and surnames. She made it clear that she expects to be treated with the same level of formality as her male counterparts, without any unnecessary displays of affection that create a distinction.

While Rehman expressed her openness to informal address like 'Sherry,' she also insisted that such informality should be extended to male colleagues as well. She mentioned that terms like 'khala' or 'aunt' are acceptable if used respectfully, but being referred to as 'larki' is not appropriate, regardless of the intention behind it.
