Shah Mahmood Qureshi faces legal challenges with a 3-day physical remand in Lahore and a 10-year sentence in the Cypher case, sparking controversy within PTI.

A local court in Lahore has approved a three-day physical remand for Shah Mahmood Qureshi, the Senior Vice President of PTI, following his recent arrest by Lahore Police. This remand is in connection with eight additional cases related to the May 9 riots. The court, while declining the investigation team's request to transfer Qureshi to Lahore due to security concerns, has allowed a three-day physical remand for interrogation purposes. A special police team sought permission from the ATC in Lahore to arrest and question Qureshi in a case registered at Police Station Sarwar Road, which was denied citing security reasons. Instead, the court has permitted the investigation officer to interrogate Qureshi at Adalia Jail within three days. The suspect is to be considered on physical remand for this purpose, and the police are instructed to present him via video link on Monday.

Following the court's decision, the police visited Rawalpindi prison to record Qureshi's statement in the case. PTI's spokesperson criticized the implication of Qureshi in more cases, mentioning that bail had already been granted to him in these matters. The spokesperson alleged that Qureshi was being unfairly targeted for his loyalty to PTI's ideology and criticized the increasing lawlessness in the country. The party has vowed to take necessary actions against what they deem as unjust treatment.

In a separate development, Imran Khan and Shah Mahmood Qureshi have been sentenced to 10 years in jail in the Cypher case by a special court under the Official Secrets Act. The case revolves around a diplomatic document that the FIA alleges was not returned by Imran Khan, containing a purported threat from the US to remove him as prime minister. Both PTI leaders were accused of distorting the facts of the diplomatic Cypher for malicious purposes. The FIR was registered under the Official Secrets Act, naming Qureshi, Imran Khan, Azam Khan, and Asad Umar. Further actions are expected against Azam Khan and Asad Umar once their involvement is confirmed.

The recent developments surrounding Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Imran Khan have sparked controversy and legal actions. The court's decision to grant a three-day physical remand for Qureshi and the sentencing of both leaders in the Cypher case have raised concerns and criticisms from PTI's spokesperson. As the legal proceedings continue, the political landscape in Pakistan remains tense, with implications for the future of PTI and its key members.
