Shehbaz Sharif's Visit Strengthens Support for Kashmiris

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently visited Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) to address pressing issues faced by the Kashmiri people. His visit comes in the wake of protests in the region over high electricity tariffs and wheat prices, highlighting the importance of his engagement with AJK leadership.

Upon his arrival, Shehbaz was warmly welcomed by AJK Prime Minister Anwarul Haq, setting the tone for constructive discussions ahead. Shehbaz pledged to collaborate with AJK leadership to tackle the challenges identified during the recent visit of the IMF team.

During his visit, Shehbaz acknowledged the legitimate demands of the AJK people while condemning the violence that marred some of the protests. He expressed condolences for the lives lost and announced support for the affected families through the Shuhada Package, demonstrating a commitment to addressing the human impact of the unrest.

At a special cabinet meeting, Shehbaz urged the AJK government to establish a committee for consultations with relevant Pakistani ministries on critical issues such as water charges and the Neelum Jhelum project. He emphasized the importance of timely completion of the Mangla Phase-2 project and engaged in discussions with federal officials and Kashmiri leaders to find solutions for the Neelum Jhelum project.

Shehbaz commended the collaborative efforts of various officials in responding to the people's demands, underscoring Pakistan's steadfast support for Kashmiris. He highlighted recent international advocacy efforts, including Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar's address at the OIC Summit, as part of Pakistan's ongoing commitment to the Kashmir cause.

Furthermore, Shehbaz drew attention to the Indian atrocities in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), reaffirming Pakistan's moral and diplomatic backing for the Kashmiri people. He criticized the Indian ruling party's reluctance to participate in elections in IIOJK under its true identity, suggesting a fear of public backlash due to human rights abuses in the region.
