Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan discusses plans to strengthen ties with China, focusing on economic collaboration, security measures, and mutual support.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan recently highlighted the country's interest in strengthening ties with China across various sectors. During a meeting attended by top officials, including Federal Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal and Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, PM Shehbaz discussed plans for the next phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Emphasizing China's importance as a key partner in Pakistan's development, the Prime Minister focused on enhancing exports to Beijing and encouraging Chinese textile firms to invest in Pakistan. He also outlined initiatives to develop Gwadar port with Chinese support and establish Agriculture Demonstration Zones as part of upcoming CPEC projects.

PM Shehbaz expressed the need for China's assistance in boosting Pakistan's exports and is set to visit China in June following an invitation from President Xi Jinping. He assured full support and facilities for Chinese investors interested in Pakistan.

Addressing security concerns, PM Shehbaz assured foolproof security measures for Chinese citizens in Pakistan and mentioned a comprehensive security plan in place. China has reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with Pakistan on security matters, particularly in light of the recent Dasu attack where Chinese nationals were killed.

In response to the attack, Pakistan has requested Afghanistan to apprehend the leaders of the banned TTP group believed to be responsible. Investigations revealed that the attackers entered Pakistan from Afghanistan, leading to the arrest of multiple suspects. The federal cabinet approved compensation for the families of the victims, including $2.58 million for the families of the Chinese nationals affected by the Dasu incident.

The discussions between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chinese officials underscore the importance of the strategic partnership between Pakistan and China. With a focus on economic collaboration, security measures, and mutual support, both countries are working towards further enhancing their relationship for the benefit of their citizens and regional stability.
