The World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Director for Eastern Mediterranean, Dr. Hanan Balkhy, recently held a meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to discuss collaborative efforts in the health sector. Dr. Balkhy commended Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on her historic election as the first woman Chief Minister of Punjab, while the Chief Minister congratulated Dr. Balkhy on her appointment as the WHO Regional Director.

During the meeting, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif praised Dr. Balkhy's contributions to public infection control and expressed her commitment to working closely with WHO to prioritize disease prevention and treatment in Punjab. She highlighted the establishment of 32 field hospitals to cater to rural communities and outlined plans to build state-of-the-art hospitals in every district within the next five years.
