Huawei's FOUR NEW strategy aims to empower telecom carriers in the digital era through AI and innovative services.
In today's rapidly evolving digital landscape, telecommunications companies are under immense pressure to innovate and adapt. The rise of artificial intelligence (AI) and ultra-broadband (UBB) technologies has transformed the way carriers operate, pushing them to explore new avenues for growth and efficiency. Huawei, a leading global provider of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices, has recently introduced a comprehensive strategy known as the "FOUR NEW" to help carriers navigate this complex environment.
During the 10th Ultra-Broadband Forum (UBBF 2024) held in Istanbul, Turkey, James Chen, President of Huawei's Carrier Business, emphasized the importance of this strategy. He stated, "To explore the potential of AI, the 'FOUR NEW' strategy — new hub, new services, new experience, and new operation is crucial." This approach aims to empower carriers to expand their market reach, foster innovative services, and enhance their competitiveness while optimizing network operations and maintenance (O&M).
The "FOUR NEW" strategy is built on four key pillars. The first, the New Hub, focuses on creating an AI Hub for home services. This hub is designed to develop AI agents that connect people, devices, and applications, allowing them to understand and respond to the needs of family members. By controlling smart devices and integrating AI applications, carriers can achieve significant breakthroughs in the home market.
The second pillar, New Services, encourages carriers to leverage AI to aggregate high-quality content and gradually build a home AI application ecosystem. This not only upgrades traditional services like interactive fitness and motion-sensing games but also introduces innovative home services such as service robots, healthcare solutions, and educational tools. The ultimate goal is to enhance the quality of life for users while establishing a robust home AI ecosystem.
Next is the New Experience, which highlights the emergence of services like cloud gaming, live commerce, and AI-driven searches for photos and videos. These services demand high network quality, including low latency and sufficient bandwidth. Carriers can capitalize on these demands by adopting new business models, such as charging based on latency or bandwidth usage. To ensure a high-quality service experience, carriers must invest in building "Premium vertical and premium horizontal" networks that support these advanced services.
Finally, the New Operation pillar addresses the growing complexity of network management. As networks expand, the need for autonomous driving networks becomes increasingly critical. AI plays a vital role in enhancing network operation efficiency, allowing carriers to reduce customer complaints and improve service provisioning. Huawei's L4 autonomous driving network, based on the Telecom Foundation Model, exemplifies this innovation, helping operators streamline their operations and accelerate fault rectification.
The "FOUR NEW" strategy represents a significant step forward for carriers looking to thrive in the digital and intelligent era. By focusing on the New Hub, New Services, New Experience, and New Operation, Huawei is not only driving technological innovation but also unlocking new business value for telecommunications companies. As the industry continues to evolve, it is essential for carriers to embrace these changes and work collaboratively with partners to navigate the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. The future of telecommunications is bright, and with the right strategies in place, carriers can look forward to a prosperous and intelligent world.
