The weather in Jammu and Kashmir is set to change as a weak Western Disturbance (WD) approaches the region. According to the Meteorological (MeT) Department, this weather system is expected to bring light rain and snowfall to higher altitudes and scattered areas starting from late Monday evening and continuing into Tuesday morning. Following this brief wet spell, dry weather is anticipated to dominate the region until December 7.

On December 8, residents can expect another round of precipitation, with light rain and snow likely over the higher reaches and isolated locations. The MeT office has indicated that after this, the weather will remain dry until December 12. This pattern of weather is typical for this time of year, as the region transitions into winter.

Despite the impending weather changes, the Kashmir Valley has been experiencing chilly conditions. Although day and night temperatures have shown slight improvements, they remain below normal across most areas. The popular tourist destination of Gulmarg has recorded the lowest temperature at minus 2.9°C, while Pahalgam has seen temperatures rise to 2.3°C on Monday.

In Srinagar, the minimum temperature during the night from Sunday to Monday improved slightly, settling at minus 0.8°C, which is 0.4°C above the normal for this time of year. However, the iconic Dal Lake and surrounding areas have been shrouded in fog, causing disruptions to daily activities. Qazigund recorded a low of minus 1.4°C, which is slightly below normal for this region.

Meanwhile, Pahalgam's temperature dipped to minus 2.3°C, still above the seasonal average. Gulmarg, known for its ski resorts, remains cold with temperatures at minus 2.9°C, which is also above normal for this time of year. Kokernag recorded a low of 0.2°C, while Kupwara's temperature settled at minus 0.6°C, both of which are above the expected averages.

As the weather continues to fluctuate, it is essential for residents and visitors to stay informed about the changing conditions. The upcoming rain and snowfall could impact travel plans and outdoor activities, especially in the higher reaches of the region. Therefore, it is advisable to keep an eye on weather updates and prepare accordingly.

The weather in Jammu and Kashmir is a dynamic aspect of life in the region. With the arrival of the Western Disturbance, residents can expect a mix of rain and snow, followed by a return to dry conditions. Understanding these weather patterns not only helps in planning daily activities but also enhances appreciation for the natural beauty and challenges of this picturesque region.
