Germany has announced its decision to supply a US-made Patriot air defense system and air defense missiles to Ukraine in response to the escalating conflict with Russia. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed gratitude for the support, emphasizing the critical need for advanced air defenses as Russia continues its bombardment of key energy infrastructure.

Amidst ongoing airstrikes targeting power stations and substations, Ukraine has urgently requested high-end air defense systems to bolster its defense capabilities. Zelensky highlighted the significance of Germany's commitment to provide an additional Patriot system and missiles for existing air defense systems, following a discussion with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

The German defense ministry confirmed the immediate transfer of the Patriot system, marking the third such delivery from Germany to Ukraine. Zelensky previously stated the country's requirement for 25 US-made Patriot air defense systems to safeguard against Russian attacks.

In addition to the military support, Zelensky and Scholz discussed upcoming international events, including a reconstruction conference in Berlin and a peace summit in Switzerland scheduled for June. The collaboration between Ukraine and Germany underscores the importance of solidarity and assistance in the face of ongoing conflict.
