European Parliament Chief Roberta Metsola stresses the critical need for increased aid to Ukraine to counter ongoing Russian aggression. Ukrainian President Zelensky highlights concerns over aid delays and calls for enhanced support from European nations to safeguard Ukraine's defense and promote peace in the region.

European Parliament Chief Roberta Metsola visited Kyiv on Europe Day and emphasized the critical need to fulfill aid promises to Ukraine and boost support for the country. During her visit, Ukrainian President Zelensky acknowledged European efforts but raised concerns about Russia's exploitation of delays to gain battlefield advantage.

Metsola highlighted Ukraine's urgent requirement for additional equipment and air-defense systems to counter the aggressor, as Ukrainian officials and soldiers have expressed worries over the lack of ammunition to defend against ongoing Russian assaults in the conflict's third year.

Urging European nations to uphold their commitments, take responsibility, and enhance their assistance to Ukraine, Metsola called for timely and sufficient aid. EU member states recently agreed to utilize profits from frozen Russian assets to supply arms to Ukraine and aid in post-war reconstruction, a move supported by Kyiv.

Despite the EU's pledge to deliver one million shells to Ukraine by March 2024, falling short of the target prompted Zelensky to stress the need for adequate aid to counter Russian advances. He praised the increase in Ukraine's domestic weapon production as a positive development.

Addressing the media in Kyiv on Russia's Victory Day, Zelensky and Metsola criticized Russia's approach to peace and anti-Nazism, emphasizing the importance of standing united against aggression.

The situation in Ukraine remains tense as European leaders rally behind the country in its struggle against Russian aggression. With calls for increased support and timely aid, the international community plays a crucial role in ensuring Ukraine's defense and stability. As Ukraine continues to face challenges on multiple fronts, solidarity and assistance from allies are vital in safeguarding its sovereignty and promoting peace in the region.
