Saudi Arabia's Ambitious Aviation Hub Vision Unveiled at Sand & Fun 2024

Saudi Arabia is on a mission to transform itself into a leading aviation hub for the Middle East. This ambitious goal was highlighted by the head of the Saudi Aviation Club, Prince Sultan bin Salman, during the announcement of the upcoming Saudi General Aviation Airshow, also known as Sand & Fun 2024. Scheduled to take place from November 19 to 23 at Al-Thumamah Airport in Riyadh, this event is set to showcase the Kingdom's commitment to enhancing its aviation sector.

Prince Sultan bin Salman emphasized the importance of the airshow in advancing the nation’s aviation capabilities. He stated, “Sand and Fun 2024 reflects the Kingdom’s dedication to expanding its aviation capabilities and nurturing a thriving industry that will inspire generations to come.” This statement underscores the Kingdom's Vision 2030 initiative, which aims to position Saudi Arabia as a regional leader in aviation, fostering innovation and creating job opportunities for the youth.

Dr. Ahmed bin Fahad Alfahaid, the director general of the Saudi Aviation Club, added that the event is not merely a showcase of aircraft but a gathering of ideas and minds that will help shape the future of aviation in Saudi Arabia and the broader region. He noted, “At the Saudi Aviation Club, we are aiming to increase the number of aviators, number of planes, number of airports … We need to increase the numbers with other partners such as the General Authority of Civil Aviation.” This collaborative approach is essential for the growth of the aviation industry.

Capt. Fareess Muneer, a board member of the club, highlighted the inspirational aspect of the airshow, stating, “Sand & Fun 2024 serves as an inspiration for young Saudis interested in aviation careers, supporting the Kingdom’s goals to cultivate a skilled and passionate workforce in this sector.” This focus on youth engagement is crucial, as it ensures that the next generation is equipped with the skills needed to thrive in the aviation industry.

The airshow is expected to attract over 100 exhibitors from around the globe, featuring aerial displays, interactive exhibitions, and the latest advancements in aviation technology. With around 100,000 visitors anticipated, the event promises to be a significant milestone for the Kingdom's aviation aspirations. One of the main attractions will be the SkyVentures Air Show, which will showcase more than 15 international teams, including the renowned Saudi Hawks and the Phoenix Paramotors Display Team from Poland, demonstrating their impressive aerobatic skills.
