Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chinese President Xi Jinping discuss progress and future plans for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, emphasizing high-quality development and cooperation across various sectors.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Chinese President Xi Jinping recently met to discuss the progress and future plans for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The leaders highlighted the importance of high-quality development and timely completion of ongoing projects within the corridor.

During the meeting, both leaders agreed on the need to upgrade and further develop the CPEC in its second phase. Prime Minister Shehbaz emphasized Pakistan's economic reform policies, industrial growth, agricultural modernization, and regional connectivity efforts, underscoring the pivotal role of CPEC in the country's advancement.

The meeting, held at the Great Hall of the People, symbolized the strong friendship and strategic partnership between China and Pakistan. Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed gratitude for the warm reception in China and recalled President Xi's visit to Pakistan in 2015, which marked the operationalization of CPEC.

Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to the 'All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership' and pledged to enhance cooperation across various sectors, including politics, security, economy, trade, and cultural exchanges. They also discussed regional and global issues, such as Afghanistan, Palestine, South Asia, and the human rights situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Prime Minister Shehbaz commended President Xi's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and Global Development Initiative (GDI), emphasizing the positive impact of CPEC on Pakistan's socio-economic progress. He assured full support for the safety and security of Chinese nationals and projects in Pakistan.

President Xi hosted a banquet for the prime minister, where further discussions on mutual interests took place, reflecting the ongoing cooperation and shared vision between China and Pakistan.
