Pakistan Government Imposes Higher Duties on Imported Cosmetics

Starting from July 1, consumers in Pakistan will notice a rise in prices for makeup, perfumes, and other cosmetic products. This change is a result of the federal government's decision to impose or increase regulatory duties on various imported items.

The Federal Board of Revenue has introduced SRO.928(I)/2024, replacing the previous SRO 966(l)12022. The new regulation includes a 55% regulatory duty on imported cosmetics like nail paints, blushers, and skin base.

Furthermore, perfumes and sprays will now face a 20% duty, while shaving cream, soap, and imported jewelry will be subject to duties of 50% and 45% respectively. Imported clothing items such as jackets, overcoats, trousers, and shirts will also experience an increase in duties. Oral and dental hygiene products will have a 50% duty, cheese and curd at 25%, and vegetables at 50-55%. Sugar confectionery, tobacco, and pet food will also see higher regulatory duties under the new SRO.

As a consequence of these adjustments, the prices of imported nail polish, skin foundation creams, and other cosmetic items will be revised to accommodate the increased regulatory duties.

Consumers should be prepared for the price hike on a range of cosmetic and personal care products. It is advisable to plan purchases accordingly and consider local alternatives to mitigate the impact of increased duties on imported items.
