The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) witnessed a 466-point decline in the KSE-100 index on Monday due to selling pressure. Initially showing positivity with an intra-day high of 76,187.45, the index later turned negative, closing at 75,517.49, down by 0.61%.

Selling activities were prominent in key sectors like cement, chemicals, commercial banks, and oil and gas exploration companies, leading to declines in index-heavy stocks such as OGDC and PPL.

Market experts linked the negative sentiment to uncertainties surrounding the government's upcoming budget announcement on June 7th, 2024. The budget is expected to prioritize fiscal discipline and expanding the tax base to meet revenue targets.

Investors reacted cautiously near the 76k level, reflecting subdued market sentiment influenced by budget concerns and mixed signals from the IMF. Despite reaching an all-time high the previous week, the PSX faced challenges on Monday.

Asian shares saw marginal gains as investors awaited key data releases, while the Pakistani rupee experienced a slight depreciation against the US dollar, closing at 278.3 in the inter-bank market.

Trading volume decreased, with 406 companies participating, 123 witnessing gains, 231 facing losses, and 52 remaining unchanged.

The PSX's decline reflects the cautious approach of investors amid budget uncertainties. Global market trends and currency fluctuations add to the complexity of investment decisions. Stay informed and seek expert advice to navigate the evolving financial landscape.
