Pakistan International Airlines and other airlines in Pakistan have raised the federal excise duty on international flight tickets, impacting passengers and potentially altering travel plans due to increased costs.

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and several other airlines in Pakistan have recently announced a significant increase in the federal excise duty (FED) on international flight tickets. This decision comes in the wake of the federal government's actions in the 2024-25 budget.

The latest notification reveals a sharp rise of 150% in the FED on economy and economy plus tickets. Previously, passengers were charged Rs5,000 in FED for economy class tickets, but now they will have to pay Rs12,500. For premium travellers, the increase is even more substantial. Passengers flying to the USA in Club Class, who previously paid Rs250,000 in FED, will now face a charge of Rs350,000. Similarly, the duty for flights to destinations in Africa and the Middle East has increased from Rs75,000 to Rs105,000.

This hike in FED is expected to impact passengers, especially those who frequently travel internationally. The increased costs may lead to a decrease in travel or force travellers to reconsider their flight options.

The rise in federal excise duty on international flight tickets by Pakistan International Airlines and other airlines in Pakistan is a significant development that will directly affect passengers. It is essential for travellers to be aware of these changes and factor in the increased costs when planning their trips.
