Punjab's Cotton Cultivation Targets and Government Support

Cotton cultivation plays a vital role in Punjab's economy, contributing significantly to the GDP and agricultural product manufacturing. This year, Punjab has set ambitious targets, aiming to cultivate cotton on 4 million acres with a production goal of 6.5 million bales. Bahawalpur division stands out as a key contributor, accounting for almost half of the cotton cultivation and production in the region.

The Department of Agriculture is actively supporting farmers in achieving these targets by offering guidance and resources throughout the cotton season. The government has allocated a substantial package to address farmers' needs, including interest-free agricultural loans and subsidies for modern machinery.

To ensure a successful cotton crop, farmers are advised to adhere to best practices such as timely cultivation, balanced fertilizer use, and modern production techniques. The Agriculture Department is collaborating with the Irrigation Department to enhance water availability in cotton-growing areas and reduce water shortages through efficient management.

Kisan Sahulat Centers will be established to provide farmers with quality pesticides at controlled rates. Field teams are also providing technical guidance to farmers, stressing the importance of weed removal and proper crop care.

Recently, experts at a seminar emphasized the benefits of timely cotton cultivation, proportional fertilizer use, and the implementation of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices. Farmers were educated on the significance of balanced fertilizer application for optimal crop growth.
