LAHORE: The Ajoka Dosti International Theatre Festival, a vibrant celebration of theatrical arts, is currently taking place at the Alhamra Arts Council. This festival, which has become a significant cultural event, showcases a variety of performances from around the world, promoting friendship and understanding through the medium of theatre. On the sixth day of the festival, the audience was treated to a captivating performance titled "Mr. & Mrs. Kraft," presented by the Neamera Teatro Theatre Company. Founded in 2014 by Diana Costa from Italy and Pablo Durán Rojas from Spain, this theatre company is known for its innovative and engaging productions.

The play "Mr. & Mrs. Kraft" is a dynamic exploration of the themes of masking and unmasking, a concept that resonates deeply in today's world. Under the expert direction of Pablo Durán Rojas, the performance drew inspiration from the rich tradition of commedia dell’arte, a form of theatre characterized by its use of stock characters and improvisation. The actors wore expressive paper masks, which were crafted from recycled materials, adding a unique visual element to the performance. This creative approach not only entertained the audience but also conveyed important messages about identity and perception.

After the theatrical performance, the festival continued with an energetic cultural showcase in Hall 01’s foyer. Local artists took the stage, presenting vibrant music and dance that celebrated the rich cultural heritage of Pakistan. The audience responded with enthusiastic applause, creating an atmosphere of joy and appreciation. This blend of international and local talent truly enriches the festival, making it a melting pot of diverse artistic expressions.

Looking ahead, the Ajoka Dosti International Theatre Festival promises to offer more engaging experiences. Upcoming panel discussions will feature distinguished intellectuals from various countries, including the United States, China, Italy, Pakistan, and India. These discussions are expected to spark insightful conversations on a range of global topics, fostering a deeper understanding among cultures.

On Friday, the festival will welcome celebrated dancer Sheema Kermani, whose performance is highly anticipated. Additionally, audiences can look forward to a special event titled "From Bulha to Bulha," which celebrates the shared heritage of the revered Sufi poet Baba Bulleh Shah. This performance, part of Ajoka’s production of "Bulha," will feature extracts and monologues performed by both Pakistani and Indian artists, highlighting the cultural and philosophical connections that transcend borders.

The Ajoka Dosti International Theatre Festival is set to conclude on Sunday, November 17. As the festival draws to a close, it leaves behind a legacy of artistic collaboration and cultural exchange. Such events not only entertain but also educate, reminding us of the power of theatre to bridge gaps and foster understanding among diverse communities. Attending this festival is not just about enjoying performances; it is about participating in a larger conversation about art, culture, and humanity.
