The Tamil Nadu Police impose a ban on drones and hot air balloons in Kodaikanal for Chief Minister Stalin's visit, sparking mixed opinions on its impact on tourism.

The Tamil Nadu Police have imposed a ban on the use of drones and hot air balloons in Kodaikanal hill station, where Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and his family are set to stay for six days until May 4. The Chief Minister will be residing in a private resort in the hill station. The ban was announced by the Dindigul Superintendent of Police, A. Pradeep, as part of security measures for the high-profile visit.

Key routes to Kodaikanal, including Batlagundu, Palani, and Adukkam, were temporarily closed on Monday to facilitate the security arrangements. These routes will be reopened to the public after the Chief Minister and his family arrive at the hill station.

Despite the anticipation of the Chief Minister's visit attracting tourists, local tourist guides and operators expressed concerns that the visit might deter visitors. Some tourists have reportedly canceled bookings due to apprehensions about potential restrictions during the Chief Minister's stay.

On the other hand, sources from the Tamil Nadu tourism department suggested that the Chief Minister's visit could actually boost tourism in Kodaikanal, drawing visitors from both domestic and international locations. It is noted that Chief Minister Stalin had previously stayed in the hill station before the 2021 Assembly elections, which ultimately led to his party's victory and his assumption of the CM's role.
