World Hypertension Day in Pakistan raises awareness about the prevalence of high blood pressure, emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis, healthy lifestyle choices, and regular check-ups to prevent severe complications.

World Hypertension Day is being observed in Pakistan with the theme 'Measure Your Blood Pressure Accurately, Control It, Live Longer'. Hypertension, commonly known as high blood pressure, is a significant health concern affecting millions of Pakistanis. It is estimated that around 5.5 million men and 5.3 million women in the country are impacted by this condition. Shockingly, 70% of individuals with hypertension are unaware of their condition, emphasizing the critical need for awareness and regular check-ups.

Statistics reveal that a third of Pakistanis over 45 years old have hypertension, with an 18% prevalence among those aged 15 and above. Both urban and rural areas show a similar prevalence rate of 16.2%. To address this issue, various events such as seminars, walks, and free screening camps are being organized by medical institutions across the country.

Dr. Hamid Hussain from Gulab Devi Hospital highlighted the importance of early diagnosis and proper management of hypertension to prevent severe complications like cardiovascular diseases, strokes, paralysis, and renal failure. He stressed the significance of adopting a healthy lifestyle, including regular check-ups, a balanced diet, avoiding spicy foods and smoking, and incorporating exercise into daily routines.

As World Hypertension Day is commemorated in Pakistan, it serves as a reminder of the importance of monitoring blood pressure levels and taking proactive steps towards a healthier life. By raising awareness, promoting regular check-ups, and advocating for healthy habits, individuals can reduce the risk of hypertension-related complications and lead longer, healthier lives.
