Educational Excursion to Local Newspaper Inspires Journalism Students

Students from DJMC, IUST, recently embarked on an educational excursion to a local daily newspaper to gain insights into the dynamic field of journalism. Led by Dr. Rabia Noor, Assistant Professor at DJMC, the visit aimed to introduce students to the inner workings of a newspaper and the diverse roles within it.

During the excursion, students had the opportunity to interact with industry professionals like Nazir Ganaie, the Multimedia Head, who shed light on the evolving responsibilities of journalists in today's digital age. Emphasizing the importance of multimedia storytelling, Ganaie encouraged students to develop a versatile skill set to stay relevant in a rapidly changing media landscape influenced by technology and social media.

News Editor Farzana Nisar underscored the essence of exceptional journalism, emphasizing the need for curiosity, drive, and effective communication skills. She highlighted the significance of asking insightful questions and understanding the world to convey information effectively.

Seasoned reporter Auqib Javeed shared practical tips with the students, advising them on maintaining objectivity and balance when presenting news stories. He recommended analyzing news coverage from various sources to observe different perspectives on a given topic.

Guided through different departments of the newspaper, including the newsroom, multimedia room, and design section, the students gained a comprehensive understanding of the newspaper's operations and the collaborative efforts that go into producing quality journalism.
