Energy Minister Leghari Urges Security Measures

Protests erupted in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to prolonged power outages, leading to a concerning situation at various grid stations in the region. Federal Energy Minister Awais Leghari raised alarm over the forceful power resumption attempts by lawmakers and provincial assembly members in cities like Mardan, Charsadda, Tank, Bannu, and Peshawar. These unauthorized actions not only jeopardized the safety of grid stations and personnel but also resulted in significant losses and power theft.

Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur of KP took matters into his own hands by entering a grid station in Dera Ismail Khan to enforce a load-shedding plan, limiting outages to 12 hours. This move further highlighted the lack of police intervention against such illegal activities, prompting Leghari to seek assistance from Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

Leghari urged Naqvi to direct law enforcement agencies to enhance security at grid stations, prevent unauthorized access, and allow PESCO to take legal action against trespassers. The trend of forcefully entering grid stations escalated after MPA Fazal Elahi and citizens in Peshawar resorted to similar actions due to ongoing loadshedding issues.

Discussions between Gandapur, Naqvi, and Leghari focused on resolving the crisis through negotiations, emphasizing the urgent need to address the power outage situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
