Gilgit Baltistan Chief Minister Urges Motorway Police Deployment

Gilgit Baltistan Chief Minister Gulbar Khan has reached out to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, emphasizing the urgent need for the deployment of motorway police on the Karakoram Highway (KKH). The CM highlighted the recent spate of fatal accidents on the highway, underlining the necessity of enhanced safety measures to protect travelers.

Following a tragic accident near Chilas, CM Gulbar Khan has initiated an investigation into the incident and instructed authorities to implement preventive actions to avert similar tragedies in the future. The surge in traffic accidents along the Karakoram Highway has resulted in significant loss of life, prompting concerns about the negative impact on both human lives and the region's tourism sector.

Notably, a distressing event occurred last December when unidentified assailants targeted a bus traveling to Rawalpindi from Chilas, claiming the lives of 10 individuals, including two soldiers, and injuring 21 passengers. Such incidents have underscored the pressing need for improved security measures and stricter enforcement along the Karakoram Highway.
