The Federal Government has significantly increased the BISP budget, introducing new initiatives to enhance social welfare programs in Pakistan, focusing on economic empowerment, skills development, and expanding support for vulnerable populations.

The Federal Government has announced a substantial 27% increase in the budget allocation for the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) for the fiscal year 2024-25. The allocation has been raised from Rs 450 billion to Rs 593 billion, demonstrating the government's commitment to assisting vulnerable families in Pakistan.

The Finance Minister highlighted the significance of BISP as a crucial component of the country's social welfare initiatives. Plans are underway to expand the program's coverage and impact, with a focus on providing increased financial aid to disadvantaged groups, ensuring continued support for those in need.

In addition to the budget hike, the government is introducing new initiatives under BISP to promote economic empowerment and skills development among citizens. A poverty graduation and skills development program will be launched to enhance financial stability and inclusion.

A hybrid social protection program is also in the works to promote self-sufficiency and reduce reliance on aid. The government's dedication to expanding social welfare programs is evident in the planned enhancements to existing schemes like the Kafalat program.

Under the Kafalat program, the number of beneficiaries is set to increase from 9.3 million to 10 million, with higher cash assistance to counter the impact of inflation on deserving families. Efforts to boost enrollment in educational programs through initiatives like Benazir Taleemi Wazaif are also underway.

Furthermore, the government is expanding the Benazir Nashonuma program to address malnutrition and child development. An additional 500,000 families will receive nutritional support, focusing on preventing stunting in children during their critical first 1,000 days after birth.

The government's commitment to social welfare through BISP signifies a significant increase compared to previous budgets. The proactive measures to enhance support for vulnerable populations underscore the government's dedication to improving the well-being of Pakistani citizens.
