The Punjab government has taken a significant step towards supporting farmers by introducing the Kisan Card program. This initiative aims to provide annual production loans totaling 300 billion rupees to farmers, enabling them to access easy loans of up to Rs150,000 per crop cycle. The Kisan Card can be utilized by farmers to purchase essential agricultural inputs like fertilizer and seeds, thereby enhancing their farming activities.

To apply for the Kisan Card, interested farmers are required to send their ID card numbers to 8070 via SMS with the message 'PKC Space' from their registered mobile phones. This process is expected to benefit over 500,000 farmers who own up to 12.5 acres of land registered in the land record center. Moreover, farmers must ensure that their mobile SIM card is linked to their ID card number for verification, and they should not have any outstanding debts with financial institutions.

The repayment of the interest-free loan is structured in easy installments over a six-month period. Once the loan for one crop cycle is repaid, farmers can apply for another loan for the subsequent crop, ensuring continuous support for their agricultural endeavors.

The Kisan Card program introduced by the Punjab government is a commendable initiative aimed at providing financial assistance to farmers and boosting agricultural productivity. By simplifying the loan application process and offering interest-free loans, this program is set to benefit a large number of farmers across the region, ultimately contributing to the growth of the agricultural sector.
