The 6th phase of Haryana's general elections sees high voter turnout and intense competition between Congress and BJP, with strict security measures in place.

On Saturday, the 6th phase of the general elections in Haryana witnessed a significant turnout as polling began in all 10 Lok Sabha constituencies. With a total of 2,00,76,786 voters, including 94 lakh women, the fate of 223 candidates hangs in the balance after an intense campaign period. The voting window, open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., saw electors arriving early at polling stations under strict security measures.

The main battle is between the Congress and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Key contenders such as Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Congress leader Deepender Hooda, and Union Ministers Rao Inderjit Singh and Krishan Pal Gurjar are in the spotlight. Notably, a bypoll for the Karnal Assembly seat, vacated by Khattar, features Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini among nine candidates.

Security protocols have been heightened to curb misinformation on social media, with severe penalties for violators. Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Agarwal has encouraged voters to engage in the electoral process. Over 20,000 polling stations have been set up, with special provisions for women, youth, and individuals with disabilities.

In the previous elections, the BJP clinched all 10 constituencies with a 58% vote share, marking an improvement from 2014. However, the party's vote share dipped to 22% in the 2019 Assembly polls.

The Haryana Lok Sabha elections represent a crucial moment for democracy in the state. With a diverse range of candidates vying for seats and a significant voter turnout, the outcome of these elections will shape the political landscape of Haryana. As citizens exercise their right to vote, it is essential to uphold the principles of democracy and participate in the electoral process to ensure a fair and transparent election.
