Historians Uncover Padhri's Architectural Marvels

Padhri, a historical village in the Jhelum district, is a treasure trove of cultural heritage and history. Located about 45 km from Sohawa town, Padhri was once a vibrant settlement inhabited by both Muslims and Hindus. However, after the partition, the Hindu community migrated to India, leaving behind their magnificent mansions that still stand as a testament to the village's rich past.

During a recent visit to Padhri, historians and intellectuals explored the remnants of this once-thriving village. Notable structures include the intricately carved choubaras of Hindus, showcasing exquisite stone and woodwork. The village's narrow streets are adorned with ornate wooden doors and stone masonry, reflecting the identity and affluence of the haveli owners.

One of the highlights of Padhri is the surviving temple, constructed with dressed stones and adorned with intricate paintings. The temple, though in a state of disrepair, stands as a reminder of the Hindu community that once flourished in the village.

Additionally, Padhri boasts a stone-built mosque known for its beautiful carvings and decorative slabs. This small mosque features three arched entrances and showcases the skilled craftsmanship of the local masons.

Another significant monument in Padhri is the remains of a bungalow believed to have been built by Gakhar nobles. The bungalow, now in ruins, still displays traces of its former grandeur with marble slabs and floral decorations.

As efforts continue to preserve and document the heritage of Padhri village, these architectural marvels serve as a window into the rich history and cultural diversity of the region.
