Prisoners in Punjab demand equal treatment as Imran Khan, sparking a debate on fairness and equality within the correctional system. The preferential treatment given to Khan raises concerns over the consistent application of rules and privileges for all inmates.

Prisoners in Punjab's correctional facilities are voicing their requests for similar privileges to those being granted to imprisoned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan. The Inspector General of Prisons has written to Punjab's Advocate General, highlighting that inmates have formally asked for amenities like having up to six meetings with their lawyers daily, a privilege currently enjoyed by Imran Khan. The prisoners are expressing their dissatisfaction over the preferential treatment given to Khan, asserting that they too deserve fair treatment.

Refusal to meet the prisoners' demands could potentially result in a violation of the Prison Rules of 1978. The Punjab Advocate General has informed the Lahore High Court (LHC) that the Punjab government has allocated seven cells for Imran Khan at Adiala Jail, with a security detail of 14 personnel ensuring his safety. Reports suggest the establishment of a specialized kitchen within the jail premises exclusively for Imran Khan.

Moreover, the Inspector General of Prisons revealed that additional CCTV cameras costing Rs 500,000 have been installed in Imran Khan's cell. The monthly security expenses for Khan in jail are estimated at PKR 1.2 million.

The disparity in treatment between Imran Khan and other prisoners in Punjab has sparked a debate on fairness and equality within the correctional system. While Imran Khan's security arrangements have raised eyebrows, the demands of the prisoners for equal treatment shed light on the need for consistent application of rules and privileges for all inmates.
