Karachi residents face severe heatwaves and power cuts, prompting government action to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply and address underlying issues.

Residents of Karachi are currently grappling with intense heatwaves exacerbated by frequent power outages. The Sindh government has directed K-Electric to refrain from imposing night-time power cuts in the city. Energy Minister and Local Government Minister have urged the electricity provider to ensure uninterrupted power supply between 10pm and 6am. The city is experiencing scorching temperatures, soaring up to 42°C, with a 'feels-like' temperature surpassing 50°C. Prolonged load shedding has compounded the difficulties faced by the residents.

Recent protests have erupted in different parts of Karachi due to extended power cuts and water shortages. Some respite was offered by light rain and gusty winds in specific areas of the city. The Chief Meteorologist has mentioned the likelihood of drizzles in certain regions but has dismissed the possibility of substantial rainfall. The weather forecast indicates partly cloudy conditions, with the absence of the usual sea breeze attributed to low air pressure in the Arabian Sea.

The government has stressed that citizens should not endure hardships due to electricity theft, advocating for stringent action against offenders. Additionally, the Sindh government has committed to settling its outstanding dues to K-Electric, which is encountering difficulties in maintaining uninterrupted power supply due to financial constraints. The government has also urged other electricity providers to minimize power cuts and notify residents in advance of any planned outages.

Moreover, the Home Minister has cautioned K-Electric of legal repercussions if load shedding results in any unexplained deaths in the city. The government is actively taking measures to tackle the power supply challenges and safeguard the well-being of Karachi's residents.

The situation in Karachi remains critical as the city battles extreme heatwaves and power disruptions. The government's directives to K-Electric and its efforts to address the underlying issues are crucial steps towards alleviating the hardships faced by the populace. It is imperative for all stakeholders to collaborate effectively to ensure a reliable and uninterrupted power supply, especially during these challenging times.
