Lahore High Court Chief Justice sentences lawyer to jail for misbehaving with a judge, highlighting the importance of respecting the judiciary and upholding discipline in legal proceedings.

In a rare verdict, Lahore High Court Chief Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan has sentenced lawyer Zahid Mahmood Goraya to six months in jail for misbehaving with a judge during a court hearing. The incident occurred in the court of Justice Sultan Tanvir Ahmad, leading to a reference being sent to the LHC chief justice for action against Goraya.

Despite Goraya's apology and plea for forgiveness, Justice Khan indicted him under contempt charges, emphasizing the seriousness of maintaining decorum in the court. During the lengthy hearing, testimonies were recorded, and despite requests for leniency, the chief justice upheld the rule of law and handed down a six-month prison sentence along with a Rs100,000 fine.

Lawyer Asad Manzoor Butt, representing Goraya, also sought forgiveness on his client's behalf, expressing regret over the incident. However, Justice Khan remained steadfast in upholding the law and ensuring accountability for misconduct within the judicial system.

This verdict serves as a reminder of the importance of respecting the judiciary and upholding the principles of justice in all legal proceedings.
