Mayor Murtaza Wahab takes charge in Karachi to address rainwater drainage issues after heavy rainfall. Efforts are underway to mitigate the impact and ensure residents' safety.

Following heavy rainfall in Karachi, Mayor Murtaza Wahab has taken charge to ensure the drainage of rainwater from the main arteries of the city. Surjani Town received the highest rainfall at 29mm, with other areas like Nazimabad and Gulshan-i-Hadeed also experiencing significant rainfall. The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecasted intermittent rain and thunderstorms of moderate intensity with isolated heavy falls in Karachi.

Mayor Wahab commended the teams working to address the rain situation in various parts of the city, including Naagin Chowrangi and KDA Chowrangi. He mentioned the deployment of vehicles with suction, jetting, and pumping features on major arteries to tackle the situation effectively.

Efforts are underway to drain water accumulated in different areas, with the city administration directing all civic agencies and utilities to declare an emergency and provide necessary relief to the residents. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has instructed civic agencies to be on 'red alert' and ensure cleanliness of storm-water drains and drainage systems.

Unfortunately, the heavy rainfall has resulted in casualties, with a passenger coach accident on the M6 Motorway claiming five lives and injuring several others. The incident was attributed to the slippery road conditions caused by the rain.

Officials are on high alert, with measures in place to drain rainwater from Karachi's main roads and low-lying areas. Various sections of important roads have been equipped with machinery to expedite the drainage process.

In conclusion, the city of Karachi is facing challenges due to the heavy rainfall, but with coordinated efforts led by Mayor Murtaza Wahab and support from the authorities, steps are being taken to mitigate the impact and ensure the safety of the residents.
