In a recent development at the Lahore High Court (LHC), a division bench member has withdrawn from presiding over petitions challenging the jail trial of the Jinnah House attack case. The petitions were originally set to be heard by Justices Asjad Javaid Ghural and Ali Zia Bajwa. However, Justice Bajwa decided to excuse himself from the case due to personal reasons, particularly because he had previously declined cases related to the May 9 violence incident. Consequently, the bench has forwarded the petitions to the LHC acting chief justice for reassignment to another bench.

Former Punjab governor Omar Sarfraz Cheema and Senator Ijaz Chaudhry have raised objections to the jail trial of the Jinnah House attack case. They have urged the court to invalidate the notification for the trial. It is important to note that both Cheema and Chaudhry, who are leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, have been accused of involvement in the Jinnah House attack that took place during the May 9 violence.

The Jinnah House attack case stems from an incident that occurred during the May 9 violence, where a group of individuals allegedly targeted and vandalized the historic Jinnah House. The attack sparked outrage and led to a series of legal proceedings to hold the perpetrators accountable for their actions.

The withdrawal of Justice Ali Zia Bajwa from presiding over the petitions related to the Jinnah House attack case has prompted the reassignment of the case to another bench at the Lahore High Court. The objections raised by former Punjab governor Omar Sarfraz Cheema and Senator Ijaz Chaudhry add complexity to the legal proceedings surrounding the case. As the case continues to unfold, it remains crucial for the justice system to ensure a fair and transparent trial process to uphold the rule of law.
