The National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) recently wrapped up its second cohort of the National Media Fellowship on Women’s Rights, in collaboration with partners UNFPA and CEJ-IBA. The fellowship aimed to empower journalists to shed light on crucial issues affecting women in Pakistan.

During the fellowship, participants produced impactful stories and documentaries focusing on gender-based violence, child marriage, economic challenges, and the struggles of marginalized communities. The Chairperson of NCSW, Nilofar Bakhtiar, and Deputy Chairman Senate, Syedaal Khan Nasar, lauded the efforts of the media fellows in advocating for women’s rights and pledged support for legislative measures to protect women.

UNFPA’s Country Representative in Pakistan, Luay Shabaneh, emphasized the significance of strategic partnerships in advancing gender equality and addressing the challenges faced by vulnerable groups like the transgender community.

The fellowship not only highlighted the issues faced by women and marginalized communities but also underscored the media’s role in raising awareness, humanizing statistics, and influencing public opinion and policy. Journalists were encouraged to continue championing women’s rights, with upcoming national conferences planned to address various crucial topics.

The National Media Fellowship on Women’s Rights served as a platform for journalists to advocate for gender equality, amplify the voices of marginalized groups, and promote solutions journalism. The fellowship not only recognized outstanding journalists but also fostered a network of media professionals committed to driving positive change in society.
