The National Commission on the Status of Women launches a fellowship empowering journalists to advocate for women's rights and address social issues through impactful storytelling.

The National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) recently launched the National Media Fellowship on Women’s Rights in collaboration with partners UNFPA and CEJ-IBA. This initiative aims to empower journalists to address critical issues such as gender-based violence and child marriage through impactful storytelling and documentaries.

Chairperson Nilofar Bakhtiar commended the fellows for their dedication and encouraged them to continue advocating for women's rights. The NCSW plans to organize national conferences to further support these efforts in promoting gender equality.

Deputy Chairman Senate, Syedaal Khan Nasar, praised the NCSW's work and pledged to strengthen laws protecting women's rights. The successful conclusion of the second cohort of the fellowship saw 39 fellows highlighting economic challenges, violence against women, and issues faced by marginalized communities.

UNFPA’s Country Representative, Luay Shabaneh, emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships in advancing gender equality. The fellowship empowered journalists to cover topics like inheritance rights, gender-based violence, and challenges faced by transgender individuals, aiming to raise awareness and influence public opinion and policy.

The fellowship not only created a network of journalists committed to solutions journalism but also recognized outstanding journalists with prizes and distributed certificates to all participants. This initiative marks a significant step towards empowering journalists to advocate for women's rights and address pressing social issues.
