At least 20 individuals lost their lives and 21 sustained injuries in a devastating bus accident that occurred in Gilgit-Baltistan's Diamer district. The incident took place early Friday morning when a passenger bus en route to Gilgit from Rawalpindi skidded off the road and overturned near Gunar Farm on the Karakoram Highway.

Rescue operations were promptly initiated by Rescue 1122 and other emergency teams, with the injured being swiftly transported to Chillas Hospital for urgent medical treatment. Unfortunately, the death toll is expected to rise due to the severe condition of many of the injured passengers.

Local authorities declared an emergency at the hospital, appealing for blood donations to assist the injured. Among the casualties were three women, out of the total 43 passengers on board the ill-fated bus.

The Pakistan Army's rescue teams also played a crucial role in the evacuation efforts, with 10 individuals airlifted to the Gilgit-Baltistan Combined Military Hospital for further medical care.

Political figures, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, President Asif Ali Zardari, and GB Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan, expressed deep sorrow and extended condolences to the families of the victims. Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also joined in mourning the tragic loss of lives.

The local community rallied together in support, with mosques broadcasting appeals for blood donations, leading to a significant turnout of volunteers at the hospital to aid the injured.

The nation mourns the loss of these precious lives and stands in solidarity with the affected families during this difficult time.
