Pakistan Post and WWF-Pakistan Collaborate on Markhor Conservation Stamps

Pakistan Post and WWF-Pakistan have joined forces to release a series of stamps featuring the Kashmir markhor, a majestic wild goat species native to South Asia and Central Asia. The initiative aims to raise awareness about the endangered status of the markhor and promote conservation efforts to safeguard its future.

During a special ceremony held at the Pakistan Academy of Sciences building, the stamps were unveiled, showcasing the beauty and importance of the Kashmir markhor. This species, which is facing threats like habitat loss, illegal hunting, and climate change, has seen a significant decline in its population in recent years.

Recognized as the national animal of Pakistan, the markhor holds a special place in the country's biodiversity. Classified as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List, urgent conservation measures are needed to protect the five sub-species of markhor, including the Kashmir markhor, known for its distinctive horn configuration.

The collaboration between WWF-Pakistan and Pakistan Post underscores the collective responsibility to preserve natural heritage and wildlife diversity. By dedicating a postage stamp to the Kashmir markhor, the government signals its commitment to wildlife conservation on a global scale.
