The Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association raises concerns over the illicit sale of Iranian oil, threatening a nationwide strike to combat smuggling and protect public interests.

The Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) has voiced alarm over the escalating sale of smuggled Iranian oil in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, attributing it to suspected collusion with authorities. The PPDA has issued a stern warning of a potential nationwide strike at fuel stations if protesting dealers face repercussions, a move that could disrupt the entire fuel distribution network. Hasan Shah, a member of the association's Central Executive Committee, has indicated that district presidents are gearing up to launch a protest against illicit filling stations, particularly in Peshawar Division.

Shah emphasized the dangers linked to the proliferation of unauthorized filling stations, underscoring the urgent need for government intervention. He criticized the authorities for relying on threats of raids and arrests instead of tackling the root cause of the problem. The PPDA has expressed solidarity with its members in Peshawar Division and has threatened a nationwide strike in response to any arrests.

The association has accused a substantial smuggling network of circulating inferior quality Iranian oil throughout the country, notably in Peshawar. This illicit trade not only poses safety risks but also leads to revenue losses for the government and legitimate players in the petroleum industry. The PPDA has denounced the involvement of local authorities in enabling this illegal trade, stressing the necessity for resolute action to protect public interests.

In response to these developments, the PPDA has pledged to combat the trade of smuggled Iranian oil in Pakistan and uphold the integrity of the petroleum sector.

The concerns raised by the Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association shed light on the grave implications of the illicit sale of Iranian oil in the country. With the threat of a nationwide strike looming, the need for swift and decisive government action to curb this illegal trade becomes increasingly urgent. Safeguarding public safety and ensuring fair competition in the petroleum industry are paramount, and it is imperative that authorities address these issues promptly to uphold the rule of law and protect the interests of all stakeholders.
