Families of PTI activists demand fair trials, legal representatives highlight human rights violations, and urge Supreme Court to address civilian trials in military courts promptly.

The families of PTI activists currently undergoing military court proceedings following the May 9 violence incidents are advocating for a fair trial for their relatives. A group of over a dozen family members, accompanied by their legal representatives, convened at the Lahore Press Club to voice their concerns. They stressed the necessity of a just legal process for the accused individuals.

During the press conference, Ms. Bajwa, one of the lawyers, drew attention to the disregard for basic human rights in Pakistan. She unveiled plans to initiate a campaign aimed at raising awareness and rallying the public against such violations. Ms. Bajwa expressed worry over the denial of visitation rights to the families of those detained in military courts.

Despite the elapsing of a month, the Supreme Court has yet to assemble a panel to address petitions related to civilian trials within military courts. Questions arose following the government's assertion of releasing 20 citizens, as their families were not permitted to meet them during their period of confinement.

The legal representatives contended that the trial of civilians in military courts was a strategy to marginalize a significant political party and stifle political engagements in the nation. They implored the Supreme Court to expeditiously establish a broader panel to scrutinize the cases of civilians held in military custody and ensure their prompt liberation, deeming civilian trials in military courts as unconstitutional and illicit.

Emphasizing the significance of upholding democracy and the constitution above personal interests, the lawyers referenced historical episodes where judges who supported the 'Doctrine of Necessity' were unfavorably regarded, while those who opposed it were commemorated positively in history.

The plea for a fair trial for PTI activists facing military court proceedings resonates with the broader call for justice and adherence to legal norms. The demand for transparency and due process in these cases underscores the importance of upholding fundamental rights and constitutional principles. As the legal battle unfolds, the spotlight remains on the need for a balanced and impartial judicial system that safeguards the rights of all individuals.
