The Punjab Government has taken a significant step towards reducing environmental pollution, particularly smog, by announcing a ban on plastic bags across the province. This decision was made during a smog eradication session led by Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, where the performance of various departments and stakeholders involved in addressing air pollution was closely monitored.

Starting from June 6, the ban on plastic bags will be enforced throughout Punjab, emphasizing the importance of public awareness campaigns regarding smog eradication initiatives. Additionally, plans to subsidize the production of solar panels at the local level and solarize all government buildings under the solar program were revealed.

The provincial minister highlighted the role of vehicle emissions in worsening smog and stressed the necessity of fitness certificates and annual inspections for all vehicles to effectively tackle air pollution. This announcement showcases the Punjab Government's dedication to addressing environmental challenges and promoting sustainable practices for a cleaner and healthier environment.

The Pakistan Hitech Hybrid Seed Association (PHHSA) has voiced its demand to be included as a stakeholder in the National Seed Development and Regulatory Authority (NSDRA) to enhance seed quality and combat activities of the seed mafia that cause significant losses to farmers and agricultural production.

Chairman Shahzad Ali Malik emphasized the importance of industry representation in regulatory bodies overseeing seed development to formulate effective policies and regulations safeguarding farmers' interests. The association aims to contribute expertise towards addressing counterfeit and substandard seeds proliferated by unscrupulous elements within the seed mafia, which undermine the agricultural sector's integrity and jeopardize food security.

Malik called for stringent measures, including coordinated efforts with law enforcement agencies, to identify and prosecute individuals involved in the illicit trade of adulterated seeds. Such actions are crucial to deter offenders and protect farmers' livelihoods reliant on quality seeds for optimal crop yields.
