Sindh government, in collaboration with the World Bank, implements a Multi-Sectorial Accelerated Action Plan to reduce stunting rates through environmental interventions, healthcare improvements, and sustainable farming practices.

In a bid to address the alarming stunting rates in Sindh, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has underscored the significance of tackling environmental factors that contribute to this issue. These factors include water quality, sanitation facilities, hygiene practices, and the agricultural food system. To combat the high stunting rate of 48% reported in 2014, the Sindh government, in partnership with the World Bank, launched the Multi-Sectorial Accelerated Action Plan (AAP) in 2017.

The AAP aims to reduce stunting to 30% by 2021 and further down to 15% by 2026. To achieve this, the government is focusing on expanding access to safe water and sanitation. Initiatives include treating drinking water, sewage, and effluent, as well as promoting behavioral change campaigns to improve hygiene practices.

Efforts are also underway to declare Open Defecation Free (ODF) Villages by testing water sources for contaminants and educating communities on constructing household latrines. The Public Health Engineering (PHE) department is working on providing rural water and sanitation services, with a specific focus on small community-level drinking water schemes.

In the healthcare sector, the government is enhancing access to quality preventive and curative services, improving childcare practices, and strengthening nutritional supplementation for high-risk groups. Family planning initiatives are also being implemented to address malnutrition.

To combat malnutrition, Outpatient Therapeutic (OPT) Sites and Nutrition Stabilization Centers (NSC) have been established in 23 districts to treat Severe Acute Malnutrition cases. The government is also promoting sustainable farming practices, livestock management, and food safety measures to increase access to nutritious foods.

Under the Asset Distribution program, livestock such as goats and poultry are provided to beneficiary households, along with veterinary services and awareness campaigns on nutrition and livestock management practices.

The Sindh government's comprehensive approach to combat stunting through environmental interventions and targeted initiatives is a crucial step towards improving the health and well-being of its population. By addressing key factors contributing to stunting and implementing sustainable solutions, the government is working towards a healthier and more prosperous future for the people of Sindh.
