Punjab Government Launches 'No to Plastic Campaign'

The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Punjab, has taken a proactive step to protect public health and the environment by introducing the 'No to Plastic Campaign.' This initiative aims to address the escalating health risks associated with plastic usage and curb the environmental pollution caused by plastic waste. Starting from June 5, stringent measures will be enforced to ban the production, distribution, and sale of illegal plastic bags.

Plastic consumption has been linked to severe health conditions, including cancer, and poses a significant threat to our ecosystem. To tackle this issue, a crackdown will be launched against unauthorized plastic manufacturing units. Effective immediately, eateries like hotels and restaurants are prohibited from using plastic bags for serving food, with strict penalties for non-compliance.

Moreover, the use of polythene bags below 75 microns and disposable plastic utensils has been completely outlawed. An extensive public awareness campaign named 'Plastic is death' will be rolled out to educate citizens about the dangers of plastic usage. Information will be disseminated through various platforms, including social media and posters in public areas.

To promote sustainable alternatives, the production and utilization of cotton bags will be encouraged as a substitute for plastic bags. It is imperative for everyone to join hands in reducing plastic consumption to mitigate its harmful effects on health and the environment. The media is called upon to raise awareness about the detrimental impacts of plastic and highlight the importance of making responsible consumer choices to safeguard public health.
