Tragedy struck in Srinagar as a boat carrying mostly school children capsized in the river Jhelum, resulting in the loss of four lives and leaving three individuals rescued. The incident occurred near the Batwara area of Srinagar, with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) swiftly initiating rescue efforts to locate the missing persons.
The three survivors were promptly taken to Srinagar’s SMHS hospital for medical treatment. The BJP-appointed Srinagar administration wasted no time in launching rescue operations at Ganderbal near Batwara following the distressing news. The recent heavy rainfall in the region has led to a rise in water levels across various water bodies, including the Jhelum river.
Upon evacuation to the hospital, seven individuals were attended to, unfortunately, four were pronounced dead upon arrival, while the remaining three are currently receiving medical care. The community remains in shock as the authorities continue their search and rescue efforts to ensure the safety of all individuals involved.
