A 20-year-old man in Singapore sentenced to reformative training for sexual assaults on his younger sister. Case highlights the importance of addressing family sexual assault and providing rehabilitation for young offenders.

In a recent case in Singapore, a 20-year-old man has been sentenced to a minimum of 12 months of reformative training for his involvement in a series of sexual assaults against his younger sister. The offender, who was a teenager at the time of the incidents, admitted to one count of aggravated sexual assault, with seven other charges taken into consideration during sentencing.

Reformative training is a specialized rehabilitation program designed for young offenders aged 14 to 21. It offers structured support within a training center to help them reintegrate into society after completing the program.

The family involved in the case consists of four brothers and three sisters, with the victim being the eldest sister, now 14 years old. The assaults took place between 2018 and 2022 when the siblings, aged between 13 and 21, were living together with their parents.

Despite the family's strict rules about separate bedrooms for boys and girls, the offender disregarded these boundaries and used the girls' room for unauthorized activities, leading to the assaults on his sister.

As part of his sentence, the young man will undergo the reformative training program and will be assessed for release under supervision upon completion. The identities of those involved in the case are protected by a court order to maintain their privacy.

This case highlights the importance of addressing issues of sexual assault within families and the need for rehabilitation programs to support young offenders in reforming their behavior. By providing structured interventions like reformative training, authorities aim to prevent future incidents and promote the well-being of both victims and offenders.
