The Supreme Court issues warnings to individuals and media regarding disrespectful remarks towards the judiciary, emphasizing the importance of upholding respect for the legal system.

The federal government has issued a notification instructing TV channels and newspapers to avoid broadcasting or publishing disrespectful content towards the judiciary, in compliance with the Supreme Court's directives. This action comes after the Supreme Court's May 17 order, which involved show-cause notices being issued to Senator Faisal Vawda and MQM-P leader Mustafa Kamal for their critical remarks against the judiciary.

A three-member bench of the Supreme Court, comprising Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, Justice Irfan Saadat Khan, and Justice Naeem Akhtar Afgan, issued a written order on May 18 in response to press conferences held by Vawda and Kamal, where they targeted the judiciary and its judges. The order also warned the media against broadcasting or publishing any material that could be deemed as contempt of court, with the possibility of legal consequences for non-compliance.

The Supreme Court bench determined that the statements made by Vawda and Kamal during their press conferences had the potential to amount to contempt of court. Both individuals have been given a two-week period to provide an explanation and have been summoned to appear before the court on June 5. The court emphasized that Vawda, in his press conference on May 15, leveled serious allegations against the judiciary and made comments about judges of the superior courts, while Kamal, in a similar press conference the next day, also made contentious remarks.

Respecting the judiciary is crucial for upholding the rule of law and ensuring justice in society. It is essential for all individuals, including public figures, to exercise caution and refrain from making statements that could undermine the integrity of the judicial system. The Supreme Court's actions serve as a reminder of the importance of maintaining decorum and respect for the institutions that uphold the legal framework of the country.
