Telenor Pakistan Takes Swift Action Against Mobile Tower Theft

Recently, in Sindh province, Pakistan, two suspects were arrested by the police for their involvement in the theft of a mobile phone tower owned by a private company in Larkana district. The stolen tower's scrap has been partially recovered, shedding light on a concerning incident.

The regional security manager of Telenor Pakistan took swift action by filing a complaint at Naudero Police Station, which led to the apprehension of the suspects responsible for the theft. Investigations revealed that the tower had been inactive for about six months, raising questions about its security and maintenance.

Mr. Muhammad Rakhiyal Abro, the landowner where the tower was located, expressed his grievances stating that the mobile company had neglected their financial obligations by not paying rent or the watchman's salary during the tower's inactive period. He also mentioned being misled by individuals posing as Telenor employees, who informed him about the tower's dismantling.

Following the arrests, a scrap dealer named Saadullah Brohi was taken into custody, and a significant portion of the stolen tower's scrap, weighing approximately 746.5 kilograms, has been recovered. The authorities are now focused on retrieving the remaining scrap, valued at around $7,196, to close this case.

This incident highlights the importance of maintaining security measures for critical infrastructure like mobile phone towers. It also underscores the need for companies to fulfill their financial obligations to landowners and ensure proper communication channels to avoid misunderstandings. The swift action taken by the police in apprehending the suspects demonstrates the commitment to upholding law and order in the region.
