US and Sindh Launch $9M TB Initiative

The United States Ambassador to Pakistan and the Sindh Minister for Health and Population have launched a $9 million initiative to fight tuberculosis (TB) in Pakistan. This joint effort, funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID), aims to address the high burden of TB cases in the country through a program called the Tuberculosis Local Organization Network (TB-LON).

TB-LON's main goal is to provide expert guidance and resources to help Pakistan tackle TB effectively. By working closely with affected communities, the program seeks to customize solutions, increase TB treatment in Sindh, and lessen the impact of the disease.

US Ambassador Blome and Dr. Pechuho from the Sindh government emphasized the importance of this collaboration in eradicating TB. Despite being preventable and treatable, TB remains a major global health concern, with Pakistan ranking fifth in TB cases. USAID, in partnership with countries like Pakistan, is committed to providing treatment to those in need and preventing the spread of TB.
