The Assam BJP issues a show cause notice to former MLA Ashok Sarma for criticizing party leadership, emphasizing the importance of discipline and unity within the party.

The Assam BJP has taken action against former MLA Ashok Sarma for his public criticism of the party leadership. Sarma, who previously represented Nalbari, faced a show cause notice from the party for speaking out against the leadership and revealing internal party matters in the media. The notice, issued by Assam BJP General Secretary and MP Pallab Lochan Das, came after complaints from the party's Nalbari district unit to state BJP President Bhabesh Kalita.

Sarma's actions were considered a violation of the party's discipline as he tarnished the party's image and attempted to influence voters against the party during elections. This is not the first time Sarma has been accused of working against the party's interests. During the Lok Sabha election campaign, BJP MP Dilip Saikia accused Sarma of undermining his campaign in the Darrang-Udalguri Lok Sabha seat.

Assam minister Jayanta Mallabaruah also criticized Sarma's behavior without directly naming him and hinted at possible disciplinary measures. In the 2016 state Assembly polls, both Sarma and Mallabaruah contested for the BJP ticket from Nalbari, with Sarma emerging victorious and becoming an MLA. However, in the 2021 elections, Mallabaruah was chosen over Sarma and eventually became a minister in the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led cabinet after winning the Nalbari assembly constituency.

The show cause notice issued to Ashok Sarma by the Assam BJP highlights the party's commitment to maintaining discipline and unity within its ranks. Public criticism of party leadership and disclosure of internal matters are viewed seriously, as they can harm the party's reputation and electoral prospects. Sarma's actions have drawn attention to internal rifts within the party, emphasizing the importance of party discipline and loyalty. Moving forward, it is essential for party members to uphold the values and principles of the BJP to ensure a cohesive and effective political organization.
